In May 2026, I attended the Baku Property Show in Azerbaijan with Farani Taylor Solicitors. It was a chance to speak directly with investors, founders and families considering property, business or relocation in the United Kingdom.
The most useful conversations were not about sales brochures. They were about how a UK transaction works in practice, what overseas buyers need to prepare and where property ownership sits alongside immigration planning.
Why Baku?
Azerbaijan has a growing community of internationally minded investors and business owners. Many are familiar with buying property overseas, but the English conveyancing system, anti-money laundering checks and ownership structures can feel unfamiliar at first.
Meeting in person made those questions much easier to address. We could discuss the reason for the purchase, whether it was for investment, family use or a future business plan, before looking at the legal steps.
Good property advice starts before an offer is made. The ownership structure, funding evidence and long-term purpose should be considered at the beginning.
What investors asked
- Whether to buy personally or through a UK company.
- How conveyancing can be managed from Azerbaijan without repeated travel to London.
- Which source of funds and source of wealth documents a solicitor may request.
- How freehold and leasehold ownership differ.
- Whether buying UK property gives the buyer a right to live or work in the UK.
Property ownership and immigration status are separate. Buying a home or investment property does not, by itself, provide a UK visa or residence right. Where relocation is part of the plan, the immigration route needs its own assessment.
